The story of a breath-filled life

Elizabeth Bell

Elizabeth Bell has worked with her own breath for decades, indeed for her whole life. As someone living with asthma, knowing how to manage one’s breath is vital. Literally.

After decades of study and practice, she began teaching breath-inspired yoga in Melbourne, Australia, in 1998.

The basis of her teaching is that breath leads movement.

In this way, the mind is held steady. Being connected to the breath not only reduces the ‘fight or flight’ response characteristic of the sympathetic nervous system, but instead draws us into the ‘stay and play’ mode of the parasympathetic nervous system.

When we follow our breath rather than the leaping mind, we find ourselves in a place that allows us to explore movement, breath, and emotion safely and without judgment.

Her goal is to help people on their breathing journey.

She imagines a world of calm, steady and focused people who gradually become more confident in their bodies.

People who can respond to challenges from a place of calmness and clarity.

What People Are Saying

I loved the session, I found it very easy to follow your instructions and really enjoyed the opportunity to rest and expand, and finding more ease with the face mask was a huge bonus! This was a great session for us to do as a team - a lovely way to connect non-verbally and take through an activity other than work.

“Elizabeth has taught me so much about breathing - that I can influence my breath and manage stressful situations with ease. Amazingly, my stress levels have gone way down, and the thing is, I never thought of myself as stressed.”

Cathy Grant

“Feeling relaxed but alive now - my heartfelt thanks to Elizabeth.”

  • Jennie, St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne

My blood pressure has lowered substantially since practicing with Elizabeth. At my last checkup, my doctor asked me what I’d been doing. I said, ‘Floating Breath.’ He said, ‘Well, what ever that is, keep doing it - it seems to be working!

Life is creative; one could even say,
‘It loved to happen.’

And, who would argue with that?

Focus, motivation, creativity and clarity arise from mindful breathing.
